Reappointment of National Library’s Director-General

14 December 2015

The Australian Government has reappointed Anne-Marie Schwirtlich AM as the Director‑General of the National Library of Australia for a further 13 months.

Ms Schwirtlich has been Director-General of the National Library since 2011. Previously, she was the CEO and State Librarian of the State Library of Victoria for eight years, and was also acting Director-General of the National Archives of Australia for three years.

Ms Schwirtlich has brought years of extensive experience in the libraries, archives and museums sector, at both national and state levels, to deliver outstanding leadership to the National Library.

Under her stewardship, the Library's operations have been strengthened and accessibility to the collection improved.

Ms Schwirtlich's reappointment takes effect from early February 2016 and she will continue as Director-General until 1 March 2017. A recruitment process will take place in 2016 to fill the position.
