Supporting performing arts in regional Australia

8 September 2016

The Turnbull Government has announced almost $1 million for eight tours to 117 locations around Australia through the Playing Australia Regional Performing Arts Touring Fund.

Playing Australia supports performing arts to reach regional communities across Australia, with funding of more than $6 million a year.

“I am delighted to announce that regional communities will be enjoying theatre, performances for children, comedy, contemporary dance and orchestral music from successful projects in this funding round, and I encourage everyone to get along,” said Minister Fifield.

The Griffin Theatre Company will take a production of Roald Dahl’s The Witches to 19 venues across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, including 11 regional venues.

Blue Love by Shaun Parker & Company, is a small-scale physical theatre comedy that incorporates dance and film and will tour Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales. The company will also present workshops designed in collaboration with local presenters.

Critical Stages will tour the drama Therese Raquin to New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory and Victoria.

Horrible Harriet, a production by CDP Theatre Producers targeting young audiences, will tour to 17 venues across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.

Other recipients include the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the State Theatre Company of South Australia and the Tasmanian Theatre Company.

Playing Australia is administered by the Australia Council and provides grants to support the net touring costs associated with a national tour.
