Biography

Paul Fletcher is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications.

Paul was first elected to the Federal Parliament as the Member for Bradfield in December 2009.

He has a substantial track record in the communications sector, as a policy maker, senior executive and commentator.

For eight years Paul served on the senior leadership team at telecommunications company Optus, as Director of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. Immediately before entering Parliament he was the principal of a strategic consulting firm serving the communications sector.

Paul had previously worked as a Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff to the former Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator the Hon Richard Alston.

Paul's book about the Australian broadband and communications sector, Wired Brown Land, was published by UNSW Press in 2009.

Paul holds dual first class honours degrees in law and economics from the University of Sydney and an MBA from Columbia University in New York where he was a Fulbright Scholar.

Before joining the Ministry, Paul's Parliamentary service included the Joint Select Committee on the National Broadband Network; the House of Representatives Infrastructure and Communications Committee; the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services; and leading the Coalition's Online Safety Working Group.

Paul and his wife Manuela live in Roseville with their two children, Gabriel and Hugo.
