Federal Member for Gilmore
The local residents of East Lynne today are set to benefit from new mobile coverage following the announcement of the first mobile base station under the Coalition’s Priority Location round of the $220 million Mobile Black Spot Program.
Minister for Regional Communications, Senator Bridget McKenzie, and Federal Member for Gilmore, Mrs Ann Sudmalis MP have welcomed the new base station in East Lynne, New South Wales, which was delivered in partnership with Telstra. The base station will provide improved 3G and 4G mobile services along the nearby Princes Highway and to the surrounding area.
“It’s fantastic to see the Priority Locations round of the program up and running, with more regional Australians now able to receive reliable mobile coverage,” Minister McKenzie said.
“Our investment in 21st century communications in regional and remote areas is unprecedented, and we are committed to delivering the services needed for businesses to operate and families to remain connected.
“Under the Priority Locations round alone, 125 identified priority black spot locations will now receive improved mobile coverage.”
Federal Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis said “The benefits this new site will bring are critical to making sure local residents and road users have access to a more reliable communication network especially in the event of an emergency.”
“This is a good result to now finally have improved services active in East Lynne. The coverage will not only improved, but also ease mobile network congestion during peak periods.”
The first three rounds of the Coalition’s Mobile Black Spot Program is delivering 867 new base stations nationwide and is well over the half way mark. The Government recently announced a fourth round under the program and will call for applications from mobile carriers soon.
