The Turnbull Government has announced $1 million for the National Collecting Institutions to develop and tour 15 exhibitions in 2018-19.
The National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach (NCITO) funding will allow the institutions to take a range of arts and culture experiences to audiences across regional and remote Australia, including portraiture exhibitions that capture and explore the personal stories of individuals and groups, a collection of Indigenous artworks, and a showcase of art deco works by Australian artists.
Minister for the Arts, Senator Mitch Fifield, said the funding ensures that Australians living in regional and remote areas can enjoy a range of high quality exhibitions from our national collection.
“The Government is committed to making sure all Australians have the opportunity to experience our national collections. These exhibitions bring our rich culture and history to life and we’re making exhibitions available to people across Australia no matter what your postcode is,” said Minister Fifield.
“Our national collection includes an incredible breadth of art forms, from photography, painting and cartoons to lithographs and television props. The exhibitions our talented teams draw together for touring show the history, creativity and diversity of our nation,” said Minister Fifield.
Exhibitions set to tour in 2018-19 include:
- Happy Birthday Play School: Celebrating 50 Years!, National Museum of Australia
- Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul, Bundanon Trust
- The National Picture: The art of Tasmania’s Black War and The Ned Kelly Series, National Gallery of Australia
- George French Angas, National Library of Australia
The funding will also allow a number of exhibitions to be developed for touring, including one highlighting Australia’s history of political cartooning, and an exhibition telling the story of Australia’s feature film industry through portraiture.
