Reappointment of the Australian National Maritime Museum Director

The Turnbull Government has reappointed Mr Kevin Sumption as Director of the Australian National Maritime Museum for a further five year term.

Over the past five years, Mr Sumption has made a significant contribution to the continued growth and performance of the Australian National Maritime Museum. He has overseen substantial developments to the museum site, reinvigorated the Australian National Maritime Museum Foundation and enhanced the Museum’s international reputation through cultural diplomacy.

Mr Sumption has a long-term vision for the Museum to be a world leader in maritime heritage and to engage communities and increase appreciation of the importance of oceans, seas and rivers to our past, present and future. His reappointment will ensure that his vision can be implemented.

The Australian National Maritime Museum is the national centre for maritime collections, exhibitions, research and archaeology.
